A Haven Away From the Storm

Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." Matthew 19:21

This quote is one that I have been trying to live out the last several years. Becoming more selfless in order to follow Jesus. In letting go, there is so much more to gain. (See Minimalism Misconceptions ).

I can't imagine that Jesus would want us to frivolously spend money while we are fully aware that children around the globe do not have clean water or food. I’m not saying that you should never spend money on something you truly enjoy. It’s just that I think it’s our responsibility to help those less fortunate than us and to take time to consider what really matters in this life. We do not know when it will be our time to depart this world. There are some areas that I am still trying to work on in order to do better with this.

I have applied many principles of minimalism to help strengthen my faith and relationship with God (Read more on Pursuing a Life with Purpose). I have more time to pray, focus on my family and serve others. Those are my priorities.

I am more content trying to live a life with purpose versus searching for happiness. In finding meaning to my life, happiness seems close behind. I appreciate having fewer distractions in my way toward living a more meaningful life. I am on a quest to becoming the best person I can, to lead my children in the right direction and to follow Christ.
