A Haven Away From the Storm

March 2021

Last post I discussed living and want to continue with what it looks like in our house. The times we are in now are particularly challenging with extra rules or being denied what we once could do. The way our household looks at this is that we are keeping ourselves and others healthy by just staying home or choosing outdoor activities in a location that is not busy. This comes from the perspective of a family with young children who have not experienced job loss or a COVID-19 related death to anyone close to us. I think it is even harder for those who live on their own or have teenagers yearning for more freedom. Everyone’s circumstance is different. If you disagree, I hope you can gain a sense of empathy and understanding why some people are choosing to live like our household is.

I do not believe that our household will be facing any long-term harm from choosing to be exclusively with those from our household. I look at it as a respect for life issue. Though no one’s intent is to make others sick, you may be taking a big risk. If I was told there was anything I could have done to save Noah’s life, I would do it. Since I have experienced so much sorrow, I would also do as much as I can to save anyone else from that kind of pain. Staying home and being patient seems easy to me as opposed to the alternative.

When I think about how history books will reflect on this time, I cringe at the thought of how so many people are behaving the way that they are. It’s easy to look back and reflect at certain periods in history and wonder, what were those people thinking? When looking back, some solutions seem so obvious even though we may not have experienced that moment in history.

Patience and perseverance need to be more revered now. This will not be forever. There are other meaningful ways we can spend the time we have and with others. Different does not mean bad or less than. You are in charge of your own happiness and how you want to be remembered during this time. In Part 2 I will discuss in more details what our family has been up to.
